QUICK DEV TIP #58 UE4 / UE5 - QUICK ADJUST CAMERA SPEED

Here is a really quick, Quick Dev Tip, but it’s something that I use all the time!

Did you know you can speed up and slow down your camera movement using the mouse wheel?

If you would prefer to watch the video version, check it out here

Normally I see people changing their camera speed by going up to the top right of the viewport and changing the slider which you can see in the image below.

This is a perfectly fine way of doing it but a much faster way of doing this is by using your mouse wheel. While moving around your viewport if you roll your mouse wheel backwards you will slow the camera movement down.

Then if you roll your mouse wheel forwards while moving you will speed up the camera movement.

This can be really useful if you are working on say a landscape and doing a mix between working on broad strokes of detail from a distance, as well as more close-up focused areas of detail as well.

This works in exactly the same way in the Early Access version of Unreal Engine 5. Mouse wheel backwards to slow, and forwards to speed up.

This is very useful when you are building out levels and can help you stay focused on what matters, in much the same way that keyboard shortcuts can help you stay in the action.
