QUICK DEV TIP #61 UE4 / UE5 - STORE BLUEPRINT GRAPH POSITIONS

I came across today’s quick dev tip randomly while reading some of the older engine version release patch notes, its cool and I wanted to share it with you all.

Did you know you can bookmark positions in your blueprint event graph and quickly switch between them?

If you would prefer to watch the video version, check it out here

While in a blueprint event graph if we hold ctrl and press a number key (0-9) the current location we are at will be stored. For example in the gif below I am going to a location and holding Ctrl and press 1, moving to another location and pressing Ctrl + 2, then a last location pressing Ctrl + 3. Storing those locations for later use.

The cool thing about this is that we can now very quickly switch between these locations in our blueprint by using the Shift key combined with a number key. In the gif below you can see me quickly switching between the stored locations by using the keyboard shortcuts Shift + 1, Shift + 2, Shift + 3.

This works in exactly the same way in the Early Access version of the Unreal Engine 5 as well. Ctrl + number keys to store, Shift + number keys to quickly move to that location.

This system works very similarly to camera bookmarking which you can do in your viewport. I think it would be particularly useful if have a busy or a messy blueprint and you often find yourself needing to move between a few key areas of the Event Graph.
